    Bluesky

Bluesky is a social network built on the AT Protocol. People can choose different feeds, and the architecture supports moving account hosting. However, the Bluesky app, its underlying protocol and individual services are distinct. An open protocol guarantees neither reach nor an absence of rules.

    Bluesky explained

For a brand, start with the actual : are there conversations to which we can contribute something substantial? Calling a platform young, technical or opinionated is no substitute for checking. Observe relevant topics, sources and ways of interacting before filling another channel with posts.

People on Bluesky can use feeds with different selection rules. This offers alternatives to a single content selection, but does not entitle a brand to appear in a particular feed. A thematic feed also does not provide permission to contact its users with advertising outside the conversation. The specific contribution and its context still matter.

AT Protocol provides for changing hosting providers. Identity, posts, media files and preferences need consideration; not every service state is stored in the same place. Test portability in practice. Bluesky has its own terms and moderation, and other services may apply their own rules. Decentralisation removes neither these dependencies nor every outage risk.

Creative Engineering turns a relevant question into a contribution people can understand on the platform, with a route to deeper knowledge where useful. AI can organise source material but cannot replace knowledge of the community. We take responsibility for the concept and quality. Plan editing and community management as ongoing work, and assess whether the additional channel justifies that effort.

    Examples

    Hypothetical application

A trade association observes discussions on an industry issue and publishes a clear explanation linked to an original source. A knowledgeable person answers follow-up questions. The association evaluates the usefulness of the discussion rather than inferring a large readership from its platform choice.

    Key Points

    • Distinguish the app, protocol and hosting service.
    • Selectable feeds create possibilities, not guaranteed visibility.
    • Test portability, management capacity and the actual audience.

    Practical application

Observe relevant conversations and test a clearly scoped editorial contribution. Assess management effort, source quality and actual responses.

    Useful measures

    Relevant responses

Check whether conversations actually address the intended subject matter.

    Traceable further reading

Record relevant visits to deeper content where reliably measurable.

    Operational readiness

Assess response capacity, secure access and tested export or migration routes.

    Common mistakes

    • Equating an open protocol with complete independence.
    • Treating an imagined audience profile as user evidence.
    • Calling a migration complete without checking media and preferences.
