Connect brand strategy, creative quality and financial planning: a decision framework for marketing and finance.

Connect brand work with business objectives

CMOs need to explain the contribution marketing is intended to make and how that contribution will be assessed. Our recommendation for 2026 is to consider brand strategy, creative quality, data and financial planning together. Short-term sales figures do not capture the full impact of brand building.

    A shared framework for decisions

    1. Agree on goals and metrics

Marketing and finance should use the same definitions, time periods and cost boundaries. Depending on the business model, goals may include acquisition, retention, or qualified demand. CAC, customer lifetime value and marketing ROI are only comparable when calculations and assumptions are transparent. A sales pipeline touched by marketing does not by itself demonstrate additional revenue.

    2. Improve workflows

management, operations and reporting connect strategy with daily work. Clear responsibilities, shared briefs and traceable approvals help teams assess quality and effort. AI can support concepts and recurring adaptations. Our team takes responsibility for creative direction, selection and review. We assess economic value including setup and revisions.

    3. Experiment with purpose

Define a specific question before a test: is an offer easier to understand? Does a different opening lead more people to the intended action? Establish the comparison, measurement period and decision criteria. Results should support a decision, not simply generate more charts.

    Distinguish attribution, models and impact

assigns observed touchpoints or conversions according to an agreed method. It does not establish causality on its own. modeling can examine relationships over longer periods; its usefulness depends on data and modeling assumptions. Controlled experiments and holdouts can estimate incremental impact when their design and execution are appropriate. These methods complement each other and each has limitations.

    Work with finance

A shared is useful when it leads to shared decisions. Agree on objectives, a budget for learning and production, and regular reviews. Discuss expectations, uncertainties and the time brand building needs. Separate demonstrated results from forecasts and assumptions.

    A first step

Choose one concrete marketing task. Connect a business objective with a creative hypothesis, a manageable test and an accountable team. Then assess the result and total effort. This provides a more reliable basis for the next decision.
