Google Generative AI Performance Report
Google Generative AI Performance Report explained
Google announced the reports on June 3, 2026. According to its updated official documentation, the insights have rolled out worldwide since August 31, 2026. A missing report may reflect insufficient impressions in the relevant AI features. Its absence does not prove a technical fault or complete invisibility.
Google counts an impression according to its measurement rules. That does not establish that someone consciously noticed a link, remembered a brand or visited the website. The view helps identify pages appearing in the covered Google features and changes over time, country or device. It does not measure every AI search service.
Google says this data is also included in the overall performance report. Do not add the new subset to total search performance without checking overlap. Nor should impressions be divided by a differently scoped result and presented as a precise AI conversion rate. Visits and business outcomes require additional, appropriately bounded measurements.
Creative Engineering uses the report to prioritise useful improvements: which relevant question is answered, which source is missing, and does the visible page lead to an appropriate next step? Document content and technical changes separately. Increased visibility following a revision is an observation, not yet causal evidence that the revision produced it.
Examples
Hypothetical application
A B2B team sees a product comparison page in the Search AI report. It checks countries and periods, improves substantiated decision criteria on the page and observes the trend. Separately recorded enquiries are not automatically attributed to those impressions.
Key Points
- Keep the Search and Discover reports separate.
- Do not equate impressions with clicks, people or customers.
- Do not add overlapping subset views as extra total reach.
Practical application
Check the report and its scope in your Search Console property. Compare appropriate periods, countries and pages; combine observations with separate analyses of visits and qualified enquiries.
Useful measures
Recorded AI impressions
State scope, period and Google feature alongside the value.
Qualified enquiries
Measure separately and retain attribution uncertainty.
Common mistakes
- Treating a missing report as an indexing failure.
- Presenting the view as reporting for every AI search service.
- Converting visibility into revenue without appropriate measurement.
